We are delighted to announce that James Griffin will be joining the Cheam Team Ministry as full time Curate this summer. James will be ordained at Southwark Cathedral on Saturday 28th June and his first Sunday in the parish will be on the following day. Please pray for James as he approaches the end of his initial training and prepares for his ordination.
James says:
May I start by saying how pleased I am to be coming to serve you and the wider community within the parish of Cheam as your new curate.
I’ve lived in the boroughs of Croydon, Merton or Sutton all my life and my wife Anna and I, together with our three teenage(ish) children, live in Carshalton. Whilst I know Cheam and West Sutton really well already, I know that you will introduce me to aspects of community life I’ve yet to discover and importantly, the areas of need where you as churches feel called to serve.
I currently work in neighbourhood policing in Wandsworth whilst I’ve been training for ordination at St Augustine’s College of Theology (3 years of evening and weekend classes).
I’ve already been made to feel really welcome by Nick and the other clergy and whilst I’ve got a lot to learn about the realities of ordained ministry, I’m sure that my personality, work and life experience will be of use to you… at least that’s what they’ve told me during selection and training!
I look forward to meeting many of you before I formally start at the end of June as I plan to visit all three churches for a Sunday service in the coming weeks.
Please hold me and my family in your prayers as I change vocation and please be assured of my prayers for you.
