We take the health and wellbeing of our parishioners very seriously. We want everyone to feel that they are safe in our churches and at services, and reassured that steps have been taken to minimise the risk of infection.
It is out of an abundance of caution that we will immediately take the following action for services in all three of our parish's churches and at St Dunstan's School:
Public, shared administration of the chalice is not permitted until further notice and Holy Communion will be received in one kind only. The chalice will be prepared and consecrated in the usual way, but only the presiding priest will receive.
All touching of people as part of a blessing during communion is suspended until further notice and we will use a non-contact gesture instead.
Physical sharing of Peace is discontinued until further notice. We will adopt the British Sign Language of the Peace instead. This can be found in the video here:
We will continue to follow previous good hygiene advice for churches:
Intinction (dipping) of wafers is not permitted.
There will be no placing of the host/wafer directly on to the tongue.
All priests and Eucharistic assistants will use alcohol-based hand wash before the distribution of communion.
Hand sanitisers will be available for all parishioners to use.
We encourage all parishioners to stay at home if they feel unwell.
We also support the general advice from Public Health England regarding infection, especially good handwashing. Up to date information can be found by clicking here.
